Event Description

To our Atlanta car friends –
Throughout the past several years, your community has been so good to our non-profit foundation, Drive
Toward a Cure® (www.drivetowardcure.org ) - helping us to support those living with Parkinson’s – and
especially helping us to raise funds to benefit the Parkinson’s Center of Excellence at Emory.  In addition,
we’ve been able to directly contribute to better care and support for Parkinson’s-challenged individuals – those
like Kevin Smith, Atlanta resident and former automotive executive, colleague, dear friend and special part of
our car family – and we’ve been able to assist in one way or another since his diagnosis of early on-set
Parkinson’s in 2018.
Kevin is now living in a care facility in Suwanee, Georgia that we recently helped him move into. We’re in the
process of getting him a hospital bed because he keeps falling out of the regular bed in the facility. We’ve also
reconnected him with Emory to get his appointments back on track and we’re providing transportation to and
from those appointments.  Our goal is to get him into a support group to help stave off the depression that he’s
been going through. He’s a young man now about 60 years-old, and sadly he’s been facing some tough
challenges rather quickly, especially due to his growing lack of mobility.
Rather than any type of fundraiser, we’re interested in creating a real ‘heart-raiser’ for Kevin –
combining another great turnout with Cars and Camaraderie® and sharing in the holiday spirit.
Since Kevin can no longer attend car events, or even readily leave his facility much these days, we’re hopeful
to bring the car show to him, and provide some holiday cheer.  With your involvement, we can make the
upcoming holiday season just a bit more optimistic as together, we can share our own joy and passion with
cars.
We’ve gained permission to bring up to 30 cars to Antebellum Senior Living, where spaces will be held for us –
and we’d love to have a variety of cars and their owners attend – in fact, the showing would be open to others
at the facility to enjoy as well – we’re set for SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15 th at 3pm – and just need you to please
sign up - https://www.drivetowardacure.org/rsvp/kevin2024 (Due to limited space ability, participation will be on
a first-come basis, so please register soon!)
Hoping you’ll join the group – bring your favorite ride and share your presence for the holidays…. We look
forward to your registration.
My best,
Deb

When Concours Was About More Than the Car by Mike Thies

The Concours d’Elegance did not begin as a car show in the way most people think of one today. The idea goes back to Europe, where the word simply meant a “competition of elegance.” Long before automobiles, wealthy owners paraded fine carriages, fine horses, and fine clothes. When automobiles replaced carriages, the same idea carried over. The…

The Person Who Keeps the Field Working

A Concours d’Elegance may look simple from the outside: beautiful cars, polished chrome, fresh grass, well-dressed owners, judges with clipboards, and spectators enjoying the day. But anyone who has worked behind the scenes knows better. A…
