Event Description

Big Wheels Roll into Cherokee at the Big Rigs Show
This Annual Big Rigs Antique Truck Show Raises Money for Cancer Research; Womanless Beauty Pageant

Big rigs and antique trucks rumble into Cherokee October 12-13 for the 7th Annual Big Rigs and Antique Trucks Show, where truck enthusiasts of all types gather to show off their custom and original truck resotrations, trade stories and ideas, compete for prizes and raise money for The Hope Chest for Women, which provides educational resources and limited financial assistance to women in Western North Carolina with breast and gynecologic cancer.

This family-friendly event takes place at the peak of the colorful fall leaf season on the Qualla Boundary at the Acquoni Expo Center, which is the old Cherokee High School located at 1501 Acquoni Rd. Last year more than 2,200 spectators and participants showed up, and this year organizers expect more than 150 trucks to be on display. Models range from the antique to the working class, including pickup trucks, semis, dump trucks, and more.

Anyone with a real working or antique truck may register. Parts and swap meet vendors and food displays will also be available at the show. For all trucks approved for display, the registrant and a guest will receive free admission. Gates open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. General admission is $5; children twelve and under admitted free of charge. For additional show information, contact Bill Ashe at (828) 421-9399.

The event is sponsored by the Western NC Truck Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society. Incorporated in 1971, the American Truck Historical Society is a nonprofit organization formed to preserve the history of trucks, the trucking industry, and its pioneers. The ATHS is an international organization with more than 23,000 members in the United States, Canada, Australia, and 20 other countries worldwide. Dear Friends,

We are getting calls asking if this event is on again for this year. If so, please update your posting so our local members and viewers have you as a choice for coming weekends!  They will bring other cars, as well. When it is updated, let Mike know so he can send it out to his distribution list. http://southeastwheelsevents.com/profile/MichaelThies?xg_source=pro...

Please call 770-883-0160 if South East Wheels Events can help in any way,

1958 Porsche 356 Speedster

The 1958 Porsche 356 Speedster marks the swan song of one of Porsche’s most iconic and minimalist models. Originally introduced in 1954 at the urging of U.S. importer Max Hoffman, the Speedster was designed to be a low cost, lightweight, stripped-down entry sports car that could double as a weekend racer, especially for the California sports car scene. With its low windshield,…

1948 Rover P3 Saloon

The 1948 Rover P3 Saloon marked a pivotal moment in the evolution of British motoring. Introduced in the immediate aftermath of World War II, the P3 was a bridge between prewar craftsmanship and the modern engineering ethos that would come to define Rover’s future. Although its styling retained many traditional elements, including an upright grille, separate fenders, and rear-hinged front…

Why It’s Hard to Recruit Younger Members to Volunteer Car Clubs, and How to Fix It

Car clubs have long been the social engine of the collector car world, bringing people together to swap parts, plan road trips, attend shows, and preserve automotive history. But in recent years, many volunteer-run car clubs have struggled with a pressing problem: recruiting and retaining younger members. The concern isn’t just about numbers, it’s about sustainability. As the…
