Event Description

First Friday

On the First Friday of each month, Broad Street in downtown Gadsden changes from a roadway to a stage.

Classic cars, motorcycles, tractors and other vehicles can be viewed on Broad and side streets, and entertainers are found at major intersections. Among them, food vendors offer palate-pleasers such as barbecue, lemonade, fried pies, hot dogs and more.

Some months have themes, while others offer an eclectic mix of sights and sounds.

Many businesses stay open late, and venues such as the Gadsden Museum of Art and the Hardin Center frequently have special events tied to First Friday. In warmer months, streets are blocked off starting at about 5 p.m. and events run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. In cooler months, things start and end an hour earlier.

Every First Friday of Each Month Year Around!

The company was founded in 1959 by Jem Marsh and aerodynamicist Frank Costin, with the name Marcos coming from Marsh and Costin. Costin brought serious aircraft and racing design experience to the project, and that influence showed up immediately in the cars: low frontal area, light weight,…
