Event Description

Driver's Education There are few thrills in life that rivals those of driving a performance automobile at high speeds.  Although enjoyable, the dangers and risks of driving much above the speed limit on American roads can have serious consequences.  Modern technology has given us cars with capabilities far above those required for everyday driving and so most drivers never really get to test their car's performance potential or their own for that matter.

The Alabama Region of The Porsche Club of America allows you the opportunity to drive at high speed in a safe and structured environment in our Driver Education Program, while making you a better and safer driver.  The PCA DE Program is run in accordance with the PCA Minimum Standards for Driver Education.  All of our instructors are experienced and certified by PCA.  This program is structured to allow totally inexperienced drivers to become familiar with the principals and techniques of High Performance Driving and put them into practice on the track under Instructor guidance.  This stepped program allows for students to rise to more advanced run groups as their skills progress.  With time and experience, Candidates may be signed off to run by themselves as Solo Drivers and, if interested, can be themselves trained as certified National PCA Instructors.

For over 20 years PCA has been fortunate to utilize the world famous road racing course at Road Atlanta as the home base for our outstanding DE program.  We look forward to you joining us for a fun weekend.  We are not responsible if you become addicted to this experience.  Actually, we hope you do and will become a regular participant with Peachstate and other Regions’ DE events!

For those who really feel the "Need for Racing", Porsche Club has developed their own Club Racing Program that has been running nationwide for over 18 years.  There are classes for all models of Porsche.  As a means to obtain a license for this series, Candidates must run required number of DE weekends and then be give a Sign Off Check Ride from the Region's Chief Driving Instructor before applying for their Rookie License and the Racing School Training Weekend.  For those racers with a license and experience in other venues, please contact the PCA National Club Racing Office to determine if you have a reciprocal license privilege.

1958 Porsche 356 Speedster

The 1958 Porsche 356 Speedster marks the swan song of one of Porsche’s most iconic and minimalist models. Originally introduced in 1954 at the urging of U.S. importer Max Hoffman, the Speedster was designed to be a low cost, lightweight, stripped-down entry sports car that could double as a weekend racer, especially for the California sports car scene. With its low windshield,…

A Bite of History: by Mike Thies

1948 Rover P3 Saloon

The 1948 Rover P3 Saloon marked a pivotal moment in the evolution of British motoring. Introduced in the immediate aftermath of World War II, the P3 was a bridge between prewar craftsmanship and the modern engineering ethos that would come to define Rover’s future. Although its styling retained many traditional elements, including an upright grille, separate fenders, and rear-hinged front…

The Volunteer Gap: Thoughts on Why Car Clubs Are Struggling to Fill Leadership Roles, and What to Do About It

With car shows, cruise-ins, tours, parades and varied events across the country, car clubs continue to bring enthusiasts together for camaraderie, preservation, and celebration of automotive history. But behind the scenes, many of these clubs are hitting a serious speed bump: no one wants to take the wheel. Volunteer-run clubs are facing an increasingly common…

Why It’s Hard to Recruit Younger Members to Volunteer Car Clubs, and How to Fix It

Car clubs have long been the social engine of the collector car world, bringing people together to swap parts, plan road trips, attend shows, and preserve automotive history. But in recent years, many volunteer-run car clubs have struggled with a pressing problem: recruiting and retaining younger members. The concern isn’t just about numbers, it’s about sustainability. As the…
