The '60 Dodge Dart was an automotive pioneer in many ways. At the time, they were perceived by many to be a clean, sleek and practical car for the money. I talked my dad into buying one. He was traditionally a Pontiac guy. His was a Pioneer model like this one but a 4-door so it never looked nearly this good. Although I raced that old Dart often. You could get a 383 with long ram tubes and dual quads on these cars. They too had an awesome under hood presence.

Really a beautiful car.  I owned a '60 Polara 500 2 door hardtop with the 383 long tube cross ram. They called it the D500.  It had the sharp points at the top of the fins and the back windshield was about 10 inches taller.  If you were sitting in the back seat, you could look straight up through the windshield.

I had the sales brochure for the full line. One of my favorite advertising points was, "With the new torsion suspension, you will have complete freedom from lean on curves and front end dip on sudden stops." I couldn't help but laugh at that one.

I really miss that one. Definitely "one that got away".
