I sold this 71 Swinger Special to a neighbor down the street.
He came up with a fist full of cash at the right time and I let it go right on the spot.
He immediately yanked out the 198 slant six motor and the three on the tree three speed and replaced it with a roller 318 and four speed trans he got from a salvaged dodge van.
He put a Chevrolet posi rear end in it which all livened up the car from it's former glory, but I personally would have kept this baby bone stock as it drove so nice and was soooo fun to shift the three on the tree.( Don't see many of them any more).
The (special) option was a low dollar stripped down version which was usually a slant-6, three speed manual, no a/c, bench seats, and sometimes even radio delete.
It was an econo model, but man this car was such a nice cruiser I really miss it.
I took it to many shows with the slant six motor in it and although it never won any trophies it sure got a heck of alot of attention even among the high horsepower, high dollar rides that surrounded it.
For some reason that car was a big hit with baby boomers, especially the ladies.
They all said their Daddy or their Uncle had one just like it, but green or baby poop tan of course.
Yep, I wish I kept this one.
The car quickly sold to another buddy of mine after my neighbor did the drivetrain swap, then it was traded along with two other cars for a Corvette to a guy that has a classic car lot somewhere in Georgia.
God only knows where this car is now.
