Atlanta Motor Speedway starts the 4 of July weekend with a Red, White and Bang! What’s more All American than car shows, drag races and fireworks! The weatherman called for scattered showers so it was nice to see the Show and Shine car show being held inside. It was also good to see Food and Drink vendors, like PaPa John’s Pizza. AMS was even good enough to have an adult beverage vendor. Remember folks, Be Responsible be safe for you and the other guy.

There was good variety of cars, street rods and classics. I met some old South East Wheels Events friends and made some new ones and something I really like, the younger folks were there with custom painted drift cars and modified classics with the rims that make a statement.

The drag race started “street style” head up and then the rain came. I only saw a few and a came to the conclusion that we will have to do this another Friday night and report back. AMS did not let a little sprinkle stop the Fireworks and you could here the oohs and awes of the fans and the laughter of the kids. My buddy Bruce took some videos, remember we are not professionals but, we have fun. For more information click here

\If you are new in the car show sport or looking for a different venue, try Atlanta Motor Speedway on a Friday night. As A hint, if you bring a car for the show, go around back to the tunnel to register. As always my disclaimer, please call them and check out any information

Saturday I got to meet some Hero’s. Hero’s are people who help other people. The car show world has many, I am talking about a group of friends who get together for an event to help somebody, those are my heroes. The fund raiser was for a lady named Michelle Haulbrook Sanders, who needed a dual transplant. I got to meet Michelle, sweet lady, she has good friends.

It was a good car show at Chick fil a, the first time we has seen the sun in days. It amazes me every time I go to a car show, no matter where, I have been to 48 events this year and it still amazes me when I take pictures, how many people tell me they are a member of South East Wheels Events and I took their picture at another car show, miles away.

Speaking of which, you know how I like StreetSide Classic, they have got the best reputation for classic car sales and consignment out there. I was taking pictures at the Michelle Haulbrook Sanders fund raiser and I took a picture of this 65 Red Mustang.

I told the owner how wonderful it looked and mentioned a 66 Mustang I saw at StreetSide Classic. He told me, years ago, he bought his 65 at StreetSide Classics, the good deal he got and the great customer service, Now that he had the 65 modified, all the way to the chrome top end, just beautiful, he was thinking about taking it back to StreetSide Classics putting it on consignment and maybe finding him another car. That my friends is customer loyalty and StreetSide Classics is the reason For More Information Click Here

Our feature car of the week comes from Goodmark Chevrolet, actually 44 of them, every truck that you could ever want, all new, all priced to sell. The special is on the Silverado LT pickups there is a 17% discount off MSRP for all South East Wheels Events members. Call my buddy Mike at Goodmark, tell him you heard about him on Lee’s Corner and that I said, he had the Deal of the Day! For More Information Click Here

Folks you know I have a lot of fun writing this column, Drag races and Fireworks on a Friday night and eating Chik Fil A at a car show on Saturday. I’m in my second childhood, with no kids.

Someone asked me how I felt about the responses that you email in or when you stop and talk to Mike Thies, my boss, at a car show, I told them “humbled” From the bottom of my heart, I thank you and appreciate you. It is an honor and a privilege, to be allowed into your lives.

I always try to keep everyone up to date with what’s happening and who’s doing what so, if you know of an event that you think I should attend, let me know. Car show, race, cruise in or Bike Night, it doesn’t matter. I will do my best to attend and give a “shout out” to the folks who make it happen, you the member.

Until next time, may the sunshine and the trophies be many-lee

A Bite of History - Marcos  By Mike Thies

A Bite of History - Marcos

By Mike Thies

The Marcos was one of those wonderfully unconventional British sports car companies that could only have come from the postwar racing world. The company was founded in 1959 by Jem Marsh and aerodynamicist Frank Costin, with the name Marcos coming from Marsh and Costin. Costin brought serious aircraft and racing design experience to the project, and that influence showed up immediately in the cars: low frontal area, light weight,…

A Judge’s View from Pinehurst: Sandhills Motoring Expo 2026 by Mike Thies

The 2026 Sandhills Motoring Expo Concours in the Village was one of those days that reminds you why we do this. Held Sunday, May 24, in the historic Village of Pinehurst, the event brought together more than 130 judged automobiles representing over 40 manufacturers, and from this judge’s point of view, it was a first-class field, a well-run operation, and a genuinely enjoyable day with owners who were proud to…
