Event Description

8th Annual - Coker Tire Challenger -Chattanooga, TN

Coker Tire Company is deeply involved in the antique car market, and promotes its own rally event, known as the Coker Tire Challenge. The event consists of antique cars driving to various checkpoints located throughout the Tennessee Valley, and sometimes into the mountains of Georgia and North Carolina. A field of mostly vintage cars attempt to keep on pace with each stage’s pre-determined time allowance, so with the twists and turns of back roads comes a major challenge of staying on time. Going too fast or too slow penalizes the rally racers, so lots of math and figuring goes into dialing in the correct speed and sticking to the route.

Racers come from all across the country to compete in the Coker Tire Challenge, and it is not limited to vintage cars, although modern cars are given a penalty based on the production year. The Coker Tire Challenge is a three-day event, with every day starting and ending in the same general vicinity, so participants can stay at the same hotel all three nights of the competition. Thursday is all about event Registration, while Friday, Saturday and Sunday are days of competition. It’s a great event that never fails to show the beauty of the Southeast, and it gives car guys a good excuse to get out and drive their vintage machines!

Costin brought serious aircraft and racing design experience to the project, and that influence showed up immediately in the cars: low frontal area, light weight,…

A Judge’s View from Pinehurst: Sandhills Motoring Expo 2026 by Mike Thies

The 2026 Sandhills Motoring Expo Concours in the Village was one of those days that reminds you why we do this. Held Sunday, May 24, in the historic Village of Pinehurst, the event brought together more than 130 judged automobiles representing over 40 manufacturers, and from this judge’s point of view, it was a first-class field, a well-run operation, and a genuinely enjoyable day with owners who were proud to…
